What should I wear?" I repeated, running my hand through my hair.

"Sia, are you ready?" Mom called from outside.

"Yeah! Five minutes!" I replied loudly.

I sighed and looked at my wardrobe again.

After a moment of thinking, I finally took out a white Anarkali and paired it with silver jhumkas.

Perfect.

Standing in front of the mirror, I examined myself carefully.

Look, I know I'm not very pretty. I don't have those beauty standards everyone talks about—flawless white skin and all that. I'm a little dusky.

My height is fine, I guess. Five foot two isn't short... right?

And well... I do have dark circles.

Growing up, people never said things directly, but they did say things like—

"Beta, you look dull. Apply haldi paste."
"Try this cream."
"Do this remedy."

Small comments.

But they stay with you.

Those things made me very self-conscious. I started wanting to stay alone most of the time.

But as I grew older, I realized something.

It's not about skin color.

It's about people's mindsets, and those rarely change.

Some people are proud of being dusky. Some are proud of being fair. Some are proud of being dark.

Yet people taunt all of them.

So at the end of the day, it's your choice whether you want to believe them or not.

Recently, I've gained a lot more confidence.

But still... after years of trying to make myself "pretty" according to society's standards, some things sometimes make me conscious.

What can I do?

Those memories are engraved in my mind.

I looked at myself in the mirror again and smiled slightly.

"It's fine," I murmured. "I look pretty."

After that small self-pep talk, I felt much better.

"Well... I do look pretty. Maybe just a little lip gloss," I told myself.

Now let's talk about THE GUY.

I haven't told you about him yet, right?

Reyansh Agarwal.

Well...

He looks good.

And those light brown eyes?

Oh my God.

They're beautiful.

My eyes are chocolate brown, and I love them very much. But his eyes... man, they are something else.

But wait.

Looks don't matter.

Of course they don't.

I'm still going to test him, just like I did with the other guys.

Hehe.

So, Mr. Pretty Eyes...

I hope you pass my test.

Internal screaming.

He is pretty though.

Wait.

No.

Not pretty.

Handsome.

Stop it, Sia!

Paraye mard pe nazar nahi.

[AUTHOR: Paraya nahi rahega... hehe.]

Let's not talk about the chaos happening in my family right now. It's as if I've already said yes to the marriage.

Why are they so excited?

Actually...

Maybe even I am a little.

No.

Shut up.

That is not something to say out loud.

"Why are you coming with us?" I asked Sid suspiciously.

"Why shouldn't he go? I asked him to come," Mom replied immediately. "Come, sweetie."

Sid gave me an innocent smile.

I rolled my eyes.

Great. More drama.

We were traveling in two cars.

In one car:
Me, Sid, Dev, Saransh, and Sara.

In the other car:
Mom, Dad, Chachi, Chachu... and gifts.

I honestly don't know why there were gifts, but my family seemed very confident that I would agree.

After almost four hours, we finally reached their house.

It was 4:30 PM.

We would be staying in a hotel for two or three days since we were also invited to a kid's birthday party tomorrow evening.

Apparently the child was turning two years old.

I like kids.

As we entered through the gate, we saw a small child sitting near the bushes in the garden.

She had chocolate in her hands and was hiding while eating it.

The gate was half open, and the child's entire focus was on the chocolate.

Dad rang the doorbell.

A man around his age opened the door.

"Oh, Sachin! You all came. Come inside!" he said warmly, hugging my father.

We went inside, and the usual introductions began.

Everyone was talking when my father suddenly asked,

"Where is your daughter and granddaughter?"

Honestly...

Even I was curious.

"Uncle," Sara said, "we saw a small child outside. Maybe she was Ruhanika? Won't she get lost?"

"Outside? Wait," her father said.

He picked up a remote and turned on the CCTV footage.

"There she is. I was watching her already. Don't worry."

We all looked at the screen.

Ruhanika was still happily eating her chocolate.

"But why is she eating there?" Saransh asked.

Just then, two people walked in carrying a tea tray.

Sia and her bhabhi.

Our eyes met for a brief second.

But she quickly looked away.

Everyone smiled at her as she sat down quietly.

Uncle laughed.

"That's because the chocolate she's eating isn't hers."

Everyone looked confused.

"It's Sia's chocolate. And that's her secret spot whenever she steals it. These two are exactly the same."

"Who two, uncle?" Sid asked curiously.

Sia's father looked at her and laughed.

"Papa... nahi..." Sia said softly, clearly embarrassed.

Now everyone became curious.

Even I straightened my back.

It felt like some big secret was about to be revealed.

"Oh God," uncle laughed. "These cameras were installed when Sia was small. One day she disappeared, and we were searching everywhere. After a long time, we found her sleeping in that exact spot with chocolate smeared all over her face."

Everyone burst out laughing.

"At that time the bushes were taller, so no one noticed her."

"And the best part?" Rohan—her brother—added.

"It wasn't even her chocolate. It was my chocolate."

More laughter filled the room.

"That's why we installed cameras outside," uncle continued. "But we never thought they would come in handy for Ruhu as well."

We all looked at Sia.

Her face had turned red.

She looked embarrassed...

...and honestly cute.

At that moment the main door opened slightly.

Little Ruhu walked inside quietly.

Chocolate marks were clearly visible all over her cheeks.

She saw everyone staring at her and gave a toothy smile.

Well... almost toothy.

She didn't have all her teeth yet.

"Papa... dadu..." she said happily and ran straight toward her father, Rohan.

He lifted her onto his lap.

"What is this on your cheeks?" he asked suspiciously.

"Shuu... nothing," Ruhu replied, clearly lying.

Then she looked at Sia, who was fake-glaring at her.

"Acha buiii... sworry..." Ruhu said cutely.

Sia tried very hard not to smile.

Everyone burst out laughing.

"It's their daily drama," her father said.

Soon the conversation shifted toward the real topic.

Sia and Reyansh.

After a few minutes, someone finally said the inevitable line.

"Sia, take Reyansh to your room."

Sia gave a small polite smile.

And Reyansh quietly stood up and followed her.
